MKG’s Instructor program is an international association built on friendship, hard work and a love of martial arts. If you are interested in learning more about how to become an instructor, branch, or affiliate school please start by reviewing the program details below. If you are interested, have questions or need our help getting connected with a coach near you so you can start your journey towards instructorship please reach out to management@mnkali.com.
What to expect:
- Connection to an international family of martial arts instructors.
- Structured martial arts video curriculum as well as teaching development skills.
- Hands on training at seminars and schools around the world.
- Digital live streams with Guro Rick Faye, connecting you directly to MKG HQ.
- A fun, supportive martial arts environment that will challenge you to be the best martial artist you can be and, more importantly, help you be a better coach to your students.
Entry Requirements:
- Anyone looking to join the MKG Instructor Program should have a significant pre – existing background in martial arts. We strongly recommend that you have A) A minimum of 5 years of dedicated training with our student program or a program very similar to ours or B) A Blackbelt or teaching certification in another martial art. We are open to all sorts of backgrounds as a lead into our program so these guidelines are somewhat flexible, but the program is designed for professional development as a martial artist and instructor, not someone who is beginning their training. If you don’t quite fit these requirements yet please start with our student levels. You can start there right away and those curriculum guides will point you in the right direction for an instructor certification down the road.
- Where possible we want an existing MKG instructor to nominate you to the program and serve as your point of contact. This is not always possible, especially as MKG grows into new territories. When in doubt, still apply. If there is a certified coach nearby (see our up to date list of coaches here), connecting with them can be a good first step.
Other notes on the program:
1) Once accepted into the program there is a $20/ month instructor program dues.
2) Participants are expected to attend at least 1 seminar per year with Guro Rick. You can apply for geographic exceptions, in which case participation in our digital seminars may be able to cover your direct time with Guro Rick, but in a majority of cases we want to see instructors in person.
MKG Blend
Cross training between the arts has always been given priority at MKG. Our instructor program combines elements from the foundational arts regularly taught at MKG: Kali, Panantukan, JKD, Thai boxing and the grappling arts. As instructors grow they are encouraged to develop specialties both in and outside of our existing curriculum, but the blend of martial arts is always the touchstone for our instructor program. In addition to our blended instructor curriculum MKG has full programs with 10 levels in each Kali, Panantukan, JKD, Thai Boxing and mixed Grappling. The material chosen for MKG blend are the drills that have risen to the top, consistently appearing in classes and at seminars. Whether they emphasize attribute development, a specific combative need, body mechanics, flow, etc, they are training progressions that have proven invaluable in developing many exceptional martial artists.
The MKG Mission
Creating more functional, more peaceful individuals for a more functional, more peaceful world
Our approach to martial arts centers on some key cultural elements. Carrying these elements through to your students is a key part of being an MKG instructor. All MKG instructors worldwide should
1) Focus on the personal development of each student
2) Foster cultural appreciation for the arts we teach
3) Teach and maintain open-mindedness
4) Instill a sense of personal responsibility
5) Promote health and fitness
6) Have some fun!
